Contents of a Long Business Report | Business Communication

              
There is no standard format for writing a long report, but the general writing structure may be the following contents of long report.

  1. Cover:
The cover of a long report varies depend upon the importance of the report, it may be from a simple ordinary file, to hard binding like book, various information according to the report is written over the cover, it may be the name of the topic, writer, organization etc.


  1. Title page:
 The title page describes the name of the topic, with the name of the written, some time it display the name of the organization in which the report is prepared.



  1. Letter of transmittal:
 A letter of transmittal is a reply to the letter of authorization, in which the prepared report is forwarded to the responsible individual.


  1. Table of contents:
A table of contents is a table in which the serial number, name of the topic along with page number is given, it helps the reader to locate the topic easily.

  1. Introduction or Preface:
Introduction represents the explanation of the topic or describes the reason for writing, why this report is written?


  1. Summary:
The summary is the conclusion of the whole report, summary is the representation of the report, if one read the summary can guess the report. A summary is the brief conclusion of the long report.


  1. Body of the report:
The body of the report is the actual writing of the report in which a given problem is examine. The body of the report may consist of various things depend upon the requirements of the report.

It may be:       
§  Introduction
§  Explanation of the problem.
§  Findings
§  Causes
§  Solution
§  Recommendations
§  Suggestions
§  Conclusion



  1. Appendixes:
 Appendixes are the additional information necessary to bring the element of trust, and authentication in the report, it may further elaborate the discussion. Appendixes are also needed for references.


  1. Bibliography:
Bibliography is the list of references used by the author to complete the report. It may be the reference of any other authors, books, magazine, journal, article, website.


  1. Index:

 An index is a complete list of words, terminologies use in the book, its given at the end with short explanation and page member. Its alphabetically written for easiness.
